Black Friday

2009, I am 53 years old and never heard of Black Friday until here recently. I have spoken with many older than I and they never heard of it, until recently. Remember when stores was closed on Wednesdays? What about Saturdays?

Black Friday 2009. also known as the Day After Thanksgiving, or Blitz Day, in the United States, which is the beginning of the traditional Christmas shopping season. The term dates back to at least 1966, although its usage was primarily on the East coast. The term has become more common in other parts of the country since 2000. ---Wikipedia

Black Friday is not an official holiday yet, but many people have the day off as part of the Thanksgiving holiday and retailers are taking advantage of this shopping opportunity by offering great discounts and opening extremely early, 5am or before to attract customers. So Black Friday seems to be a relative new term coined to describe, denote or promote an official start day for Christmas shopping.

Where is this leading us? How far will this go? How far will we go? So retailers, knowing there is note enough for all, are using a few highly sort after products and discounting them to bait shoppers.

Shoppers are literally rushing out and braving the elements to stand in long lines to be there when the doors open so they can rush in to get the items they want. People are literally in the panic mode, injuring themselves and fighting each other, like lions on a kill, to help ensure they receive these few bargains.

All of this creates mad confusion and chaos. Local police are having to be called to help maintain traffic control and security. Shoplifters and other criminals are also taking advantage of the confusion and chaos caused by Black Friday.

Retailers go from being in the red (i.e., posting a loss on the books) to being in the black (i.e., turning a profit)???
