Going along to get along

Was does this net you?

If you're going to ask anybody an American would know. As we have been directly responsible for some of the world's most horrific atrocities, how could this happen? Why do people go along just for the sake of going along and in the end take no responsibility for their actions?

The silent majority, status quo, no ripples in the water, knowing it is a small group of people making decisions for the masses, yet all these decisions benefits them. Why would anyone make a decision that does not benefit them?

Why go along when you are just as responsible for the outcome as those who initiated the decision. Is that how atrocities like the Holocaust and Slavery went uncontested?
