Bitten while sleeping

While staying the night at a friends house I was bitten on the face by a recluse. With in the day a bump appeared at the bite site. The bump had a hard center and redness around it. The next day I began to notice swelling in the surrounding area. By day three the redness began to get darker and a yellowish spot appeared in the center of the bite. We decided to lance the bite to remove any toxins. What came out was something you would find in a horror movie. Melted skin! We continued to work the wound until we were pretty sure there was no remaining poison. For two days my face remained so swullen I couldn't see out of my eye. I started on an asprin regument and used warm compresses to draw out any remaining poison.
I got lucky that we took care of the bite in its early stages. I was still left with a scar but not as bad as it could have been.

shannon, you were lucky and thanks you for sharing, but question:::How did you know it was a brown recluse? I am also wondering about the self-treatment and all. I can only imagine years ago people treated themselves. Hope you continue to get better and you invited to keep us updated..art
