Victimology and Meritocracy

How can you be a victim and be an American? All of the opportunities presented in America, you have just as much or more chances than anybody else in the world to succeed. I heard a well known American leader say this. It sounded good, made me question myself and this is what I came up with.

1.     Meritocracy

• an elite group of people whose progress is based on ability and talent rather than on class privilege or wealth.
•  a system in which the talented are chosen and moved ahead on the basis of their achievement.
• leadership selected on the basis of intellectual criteria.
  By whose standards????

2.     Victimology

Blaming the victim???

What this American leader is referring is the American dream with is a national ethos, which proves to be very untrue based upon things like crime, cultural biases, unemployment, unaffordable heath care and housing, financial instability, poor quality food and water, roads… What would a Native American or an African American say? I guess we don't count?

What is the middle class and why do we have a middle class which does not exist? In what class are immigrants? Do poor people make themselves poor? Who made wealthy people wealthy and why have we made the accumulation of material wealth our symbol of success? Is the accumulation of material wealth an honorable thing, does it have anything to do with success? Is not our primary purpose to reduce the wealth gap. Are not the people with the most suppose to help the people with the least and the reverse? Why help anyone who does not need helping? The mind is a terrible thing to waste, either you are or you are not.

Then, I asked myself how could this very influential, high ranking politician be so misinformed and misguided and be allowed to address the American public through mass media? As a politician, how could he be so ignorant of what is really going on in America? Tunnel Vision!!!

American leaders would like to believe the above to be true and make every attempt to persuade Americans to believe this. The pressure is so great very few Americans would challenge this.

However, if you look at exploitation of people, land and resources, the American dream is synonymous to the American nightmare. Why are Americans so arrogant as to keep saying we are the best, knowing we are not? Why do we outsource, invite immigrant workers, buy instead of manufacture, drive prices through the roof… How can we enjoy a history so violent and abusive, a present of a false sense of pride and a foolish future professing everyone else is inferior???

Chasing butterflies, where in the world can you find a more depressed people, in a "seemingly" meritocratic society.
