African Immigration to Europe

Do you remember talk like this, not too long ago? What did you do about it? Did you take the ship? You reckon they'll start coming here? Are they welcome, will it be any better for them? Will they take your jobs? Will they fight the Iraqi? Are we going to be caught with our pants down?

TO TAKE SUCH RISKS JUST TO BE FREE MAKES ME REALISE HOW MUCH WE TAKE FOR GRANTED. THESE PEOPLE DESERVE A CHANCE FOR A SAFE LIFE. MY PRAYERS GO OUT TO THEM AND TO ALL WHO SUFFER...Posted by LINDA CONNOLLY February 1, 2009

Tens of thousands of Africans - men, women and children fleeing their homeland - attempt to make the perilous trip from their home countries to Europe every year, seeking refuge, asylum and economic opportunity. Some travel thousands of miles overland, being handed from smuggler to smuggler, ending up at one of many ports in northern Africa, to be packed into makeshift boats and make treacherous sea crossings to European soil, to places like Spain's Canary Islands and tiny Malta where they hope to either sneak in unnoticed, or, if intercepted, be allowed to stay. Many do not survive the journey.

I am traumatized to know that there are so many Africans escaping their homeland in search of freedom, safety, and opportunities, as well as seeking protection from their government in the annihilation of a particular tribe or religious group, there are many people in the world that are not aware of the current horrible conditions the Africans are encountering when it comes to suffering and maintaining a livelihood, there is definitely no compassion and respect for human life by the government of African, which has created a mass movement of African’s escaping their country’s strife.--Posted by Ms. Davison January 23
