Richard Pryor

Actor, Writer and Comedian

The Dearly Departed; He was Dearly and has Departed!

Some Comedians are funny and others “Make You Laugh”, that was Richard Pryor.

Richard Pryor, Born in Peoria, Ill., was one of the world’s greatest entertainers. Through his comedy, Richard inspired many and confidently tackled when most would have given up.

The recipient of several awards and honors, Richard Pryor received five Grammys and an Emmy. At one point he was recognized for being the highest-paid black performer in the entertainment industry

Richard was a pioneer and used his skills to their full potential. He broke barriers for black comics. Though his works were enjoyed by many, Richard was very effective at talking about black people to black people. He was a great example and inspiration, in particular for Black Males. He proved they could be talented, have a voice, enjoy their own identities and be success, at the same time. That it ain’t what you say, but how you say it. He knew what he stood for and knew what he had to do.

In his 30 years as a performer, Richard recorded more than 20 albums, and appeared in more than 40 films, including, "Wild in the Streets" (1968); "You've Got to Walk It Like You Talk It or You'll Lose That Beat" (1971); "Uptown Saturday Night" (1974); "The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings" and "Car Wash (1976); "Greased Lightning" and "Which Way Is Up?" (1977); "California Suite" (1978); "The Muppet Movie" (1979); "Wholly Moses" (1980); "Bustin' Loose" (1981); "Some Kind of Hero" (1982), "Brewster's Millions" (1985); "Critical Condition," (1987); "See No Evil, Hear No Evil" and "Harlem Nights" (1989); and "Another You" (1991).

Richard Pryor overcame many challenges during his career. Some were abandonment by his mother, being burned over a large portion of his body, a heart attack, drug and alcohol abuse, multiple sclerosis and six marriages. Yet, he did not give up.

Now! We all know, Richard Pryor ain’t dead; he has just departed.

Thanks for the Laughter.
